FATAL TIGER SHOOTING.

Tiger shooting on foot is always a dangerous sport, but when carried on in dense jungle by inexperienced sportsmen its dangers are only too likely to end in disaster. We regret to hear of a recent encounter with the lord of the jungles that caused the loss of two lives, and very nearly of others. It appears that when the convalescents were marching through the Teria to Nairn" Tal, some of the officers of the party went out shooting at a place called ' Nugla' looking for small game. Shortly alter entering the heavy jungle they came on a fine tiger, at which one of the party fired and wounded it severely. The party then divided and surrounded the patch of jungle in which the tiger lay, and some of them attempted to climb a tree from which to command the spot where he was hid, when suddenly the brute charged, and all but dragged one of the officers down, having actually torn and clawed his clothes and scratched his leg, so narrow was the escape. In the confusion this gentleman's gun unfortunately exploded, killing the Lascar who was on the tree above him. Afc the same time the tiger, again charging, dragged another Lascar out of the tree, who was killed before those on the tree could save him ; and though a moment after the tiger was shot through the brain, the grip of bis teeth was so firm that his jaws had to be forced open to release the unfortunate -victim. Such an incident as this should act as a warning, if one were wanting, and teach griffs the danger of following wounded tigers on foot v deme jungle, where all the odds are against the sportsman, be he ever so good a aliot or so well armed.—lndian Pioneer.
