THE JOCKEY CLUB.
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sib,—By inserting the following yon will oblige:—l lodged a protest on behalf of G-. Heslop against the horse Heretaunga for having wrongfully started for the Hack Race, owing to having won advertised weight for age races. Mr Luckie, the secretary, was asked as to the result of the above protest. He replied that the committee would not listen to it, on account of not having lodged the protest within half-an-hour after the race. Allowing.l was wrong in not doing bo, was not the owner of Heretaunga wrong in entering the horse? I maintain, where two j wrongs are in question, the "least committee could have done was to have held a careful enquiry to meet the ends of justice; but it is apparently evident that little consideration is shown by the Jockey Club to persons outside a certain circle.—l am, &c, ... , , , J-J. Jones. Taradale, October 1,8,1881.'
