October 15. Mr James Seaton is a candidate for the Peninsula. Bush fires around Dunedin yesterday did considerable damage. One which started at Broad Bay spread with surprising rapidity, causing the bushmen to fly for their lives. Two cottages were burnt. Mr Larnacb loses over £1000 in cords and cut firewood. Mr John Graham has addressed the electors of the Central Ward.

Mr H. Guthrie has received the following telegram : —" Waitara returned from the South. No trace of the missing schooner Owake."
