In his speech at the Guildhall to-day, Mr Gladstone chose the opportunity to contradict reports which have been current that tbere has been a dissension in the Cabinet, and stated that perfe.t harmony prevails among tbe members of the Ministry. In further allusion to the arrest of Mr Parnell, he said that this step was one towards the strict enforcement of respect for the law. The government, he added, did not fear tbe people of Ireland, and it waa necessary to put a stop to tbe corruption and terrorism of professed agitators. In regard to the State of affairs in the Transvaal, Mr Gladstone stated that the Government were determined to abide by tbe terms of the convention agreed to between the Royal Commissioners and tbe Boer Triumvirate. Accounts to hand from Ireland state that Mr Parnell was arrested at his hotel in Dublin under the warrant of the Viceroy,|ieiaed in accordance with the

provisions of the Coercion Act. He was conveyed to Kilmainham gaol, and will there be kept in custody. October 13. A meeting of the Irish National Land League was held to-day, when Mr Dillon was appointed to replace Mr Parnell in tbe leadership. October 14. It has transpired that the warrant under which Mr Parnell was arrested charged him with the intimidation of tbe people so as to prevent their utilising the Land Act or paying rents. Since Mr Parnell's arrest several meetings of the Land League have been held in Ireland, at which defiant speeches were made Dy prominent Leaguers. Considerable excitement has been caused throughout the country by the action of the Executive, and the feeling is extending.
