Amongst the latter was one entitled "Te Whiti pool," whicb appeared to have a special attraction to the natives present. The duties of judge and starter were performed by Mr G. H. Swan and Mr A. M'Cartney in a satisfactory manner, but there was considerable delay at times in getting the horses to the post. The first race on the card was the MAIDEN PLATE. Of 25 soys. Distance, 1£ miles. Mr W. Walter's br f by Hippocampus —Slander, 3 yrs, 7st 131b, including 71b penalty (Taylor) 1 Mr W. Jones' b h Ohikakarewa, 3 yrs, 7st Illb (Joues) 2 Capt. Munn) 3 There were ouiy three starters for this event, Hurricane having been scratched. Uira led, followed by Loch Lomond and Morning Mar, in which oi der they jumped the first hurdle. No change occurred till after passing the stand the second time wben the Star took second place. Shortly after Loch Lomond passed the Star and raced alongside of Uira, both jumping the last hurdle in company. Uira was soon after beaten, and Lomond came in a winner by about a length. HACK HDHDLE BACK, Of 15 soys. Distance 2 miles. Mr G. Heslop's A.G. (Jones,) ... 1 Mr W. Douglas's Quilp (Hoggard)... 2 This race was won in a very easy manner by A.G., Quilp being an indifferent second. BACING CLUB HANDICAP. Of 75 soys. Distance 1J miles. Mr A. M.'Donald's br b Foul Play, aged, 9*t 6Jb (Williams) 2 Although this was tbe biggest event of the day, it was deprived of all interest when it was found that only two horse* from the same stable came to tbe post. Walter's eh m Grand Duchess syrß, 9st 3 Although there were no less than 17 entries tor this race, only three came to the poßt, Merliu and Grand Duchess being the favorites. Merlin got away with the lead, Grand Duchess in close attendance. Prim, however, succeeded in passing Grand Duchess and after a capital race with Merlin was landed a winner by about a length.
