October 14. Juvenile prostitution is becoming fearfully common here, and cases are frequently coming before the Magistrate's Court. Yesterday Stephenson, the keeper of a brothel, was sentenced to six months imprisonment for entrapping a girl twelve years old. The candidates for election seem to be holding back. Mr Boardman is mentioned for City North, and Mr McMinn has announced his candidature for Waipa. It was stated at the meeting of the Waitemata County Council "that the Government had no power to postpone the county elections to the 16th November that had been previously fixed for the 9th, but postponed, as it was the Prince of Wales birthday. The Act prescribes that the elections can only be adjourned for one day. At a meeting of the building trade yesternight three hundred were present. It was decided to work 8£ hours per day, and have a ha'.f-holiday on Satarday. At a meeting of the Grammar School governors to-day it was decided to erect a boarding establishment capable of accommodating forty pupils.
