CHRISTCHURCH.

October 11. Yesterday an illuminated address, a silver centre piece for the table, and a purse containing 750 sovereigns, was presented to Mr John Ollivier in commemoration of bis seventieth birthday. Tbe presentation was made by the Hon. John Hall in the old Provincial Council chamber, and a large assemblage of ladies and gentlemen were present. An official enquiry is being held into the complaints of the old members of the Engineer corps.
