The third series of wool sales closed to-day. The final catalogue comprised 7,900 bales, for which a firm demand was experienced, making a total of 340,000 bales offered since the opening ; 28,000 bales have been withdrawn, and 45,000 are held over for the next series, which commences on the 23rd November.
October 7
The Standard of this morning publishes a telegram from the Cape stating that a report is current there that a eerious rising of the native tribes has broken out in Zululand.
A series of important political demonstrations have been organised and are now being carried out at Leeds by the leading Liberals resident there and in the neighborhood. The Right Hod. W. E. Gladstone has arrived at the town to take part in the proceedings, and will deliver addresses at the meetings to be held.
