At the wool sales to-day 8300 bales were catalogued. Prices were firmly maintained.
Sir Staffard Northcote, who was Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Beaconsfield Administration, addressed a large meeting at Beverley in Yorkshire tonietht. In the course of his speech he referred at some length to the existing agitation on the question of the amendment of the English land laws, and spoke in favor of measures being adopted to readjust the present burdens on land. Hβ further advocated the adoption of the principle of compensation to tenants for improvements they may make to their holdings.
