I have examined the Samplk of M'Ewrs's Bottlbd Alb submitted to me, and find that it contains — Alcohol by weight, 6 - 40 per cent; or by volume, 6*55 per cent. Extractive matter, 306 per cent.; Acid matter, 0 - 17 per cent. I have also examined the Ale for such deleterious ingredients as are sometimes added to Beer, and have found no indication of their presence. The three first conditions laid down by the Committee for Wines aud Bkbks for the late International Exhibition, as those to which especial prominence would be given, were—lst, Low alcoholic per oentage : 2nd, Freedom from acidity; 3rd AbBence of fusel oil; and all these ire fulfilled in this sample.
