ALTHOUGH this office has been in existence for a period of more than seven years, it is believed that the objects for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth in a concise form information respecting the business which this office undertakes: 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts, such as Marriage Settlements, monies to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, mone,*. s the title to which is in dispute, or whose legal owner is unknown, or cannot bo found, 2.' The administration of the wills of persons who by appointing the Public Trustee as their executor secure the euirantee of the State for the due fulfilment of their wishes, and avoid the risk consequent on the appointment of private persons as executors, who not unfrequently, though earnestly desirous of acting for the benefit of the parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed, and consequently Involve themselves and tho3e whose interests they are striving to protect in costly and harrassing litigation. 3. The administration of all estates of which no disposition has been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the responsibility of administration, or cannot from any cause obtain the necessary powers to act. In such cases it is the duty of the Public Trustee to discharge all legal debts so far as the assets extend, and divide the residue amongst the next of kin^ 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 6. The charge of lands lying waste and unoccupied of which the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for ten years, having left no known agent. A Bye-Law to further regulate the Licensing and Management of Slaughter Houses and Abbatoirs, and the inspection thereof, and of cattle Intended for Slaughter in the County of Hawke's Bay. In pursuance of "The Counties Act, 1876, "and '"Tho Slaughter Houses Act, 1877," the County Council of Hawke's Bay do order as follows, that is to say— 1. Interpretation—Section number 1 of Bye-law No. 4 shall be deemed to apply to all bye-laws and regulations under "The Slaughter Houses Act, 1877." 2. It shall be deemed to be a condition upon which any Licence to keep a Slaughter-house is issued, that the holder thereof shall keep a book wherein shall be entered the full names of all servants from time to time employed in such licensed Slaughter-house, and the entry of each servants' name shall be signed by such servant; such book shall be produced to the Inspector upan demand.—lf any such holder shall enter into the said book the name of any person not bona fide his servant, or omit to enter therein the name of any servant or shall permit any person not bona fide hia servant, to slaughter in his Licensed Siaughter-house he shall, forfeit and pay for each offence any sum not exceeding £5. 3. No cattle shall be slaughtered on Sundays in any Abbattoir, except during the hours of 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. On all other days every Abbatoir shall be kept open during the hours hereinafter speciQed for the slaughtering of cattle therein, and for skinning and dressing the carcases of the cattle so slaughtered, such hours shall be from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. 4. no portion of any animal shall be delivered or removed from any abbatoir after 10 o'clock p,m. 5. No cattle to be left In the yards longer than 48 hours. 6 Pig 3 tiken for slaughter shall not remain longer than 48 hours in sty prepared for them. No pigs intended to be killed will be permitted to be fed in the sty, yard, or precincts of the Blaughter-yard. 7. No hides are to be removed before inspection, which inspection must be done 24 hours from slaughtering unless the Inspector shall deem it advisable for the proper carrying out of " The Slaughter House Act, 1877,' that the hide or hides should remain on the premises for such further period as to him may seem fit. 8. Whoever shall wilfully destroy or damage any of the property appertaining to the Slaughter-yard, house, or premises, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £0 over and above the amount of damage done 8. Any person who shall violate or fail to obsei ye any rules, matters, or things laid down in these byelaws, or shall do that which he is not entitled or allowed to do under the authority of these byj-laws shall be deemed guilty of an offence, and for each such offence shall forfeit and pay any sum not exceeding Five pounds. _ i Prospectus.
