The Cify Corporation, at a sitting today, adopted an address of condolence with Mrs Garfield in the loss of her husband. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £13,000,000, an increase of £600,000 during the week. The bank Tate remains at 4, and the market at 3| per lent. At the wool sale yesterday 6,300 bales were offered, and an active demand was shown for all descriptions oSered. Ihe tone of to-day's sale was, however, weaker; 7,10Q bales were catalogued. The total quantity withdrawn from sale since the commencement of the series is 21,000 bales. The auctions close on the Bth October. September 23. It has transpired that the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone, in consideration of the estimation in which the late President Garfield was held, has made a request to the City Corporation for the erection of & bust of the deceased in the Guildhall.
