LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Thursday. The Council met at 2.30. DEATH OF SIB MOOBHOTJSE. Mr Whitaker moved the adjournment of the Council till 7.30 as a tribute of respect to the memory of the late Mr Moorhouse. Mr Whitaker said that though it was not usual for one Chamber to adjourn upon the death of a member of the other, yet in this case Mr Moorhouse's character and career justified them in ignoring precedent and giving a last mark of their esteem for a most eminent public man. (Hear, hear.). The motion was agreed to, and the Council rose. v The Council resumed at 7.30. GOVERNMENT LIFE INSUBANCE BONUS. Mr Whitaker moved a resolution (similar to the one passed in the Lower House) with respect to the division of the Government life insui-ance profits After some discussion the motion was agreed to. Bins. The Native Land Division Bill and the Fencing Bill were read a third time. The Gold Duties Act Amendment Bill was read a second time. The Protection of Crops Bill was thrown out by 14 to 8. The amendments made by the Lower House in various bills were passed through committee. CLOSE OE THE SESSION. In reply to Mr Miller, Mr Whitaker said he hoped they would be able to finish the business practically by Saturday. The Council rose afc 11 o'clock.
