The Maori King has issued an invitation.to tbe Thames natives to attend a meeting at Hikurangi on the 19th September, when he will explain his work and jutentions.
The Governor arrived in Auckland harbor at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. He had been looked for in the Manakau. Tbe Governor immediately embarked on board the Emerald, which sails for Fiji to-day.
Messrs Halcombe and Rich leave by the mail steamer to-morrow to arrange for the settlement of the Patetere block on behalf of the Patetere Association.
The foundation stone of the Newton Catholic Church was laid yesterday in the presence of five thousand spectators. Father Fynes, the Vicar-General, performed the ceremony, and Lord Abbot Alcock preached. The offertory amounted to £167.
