LONDON.

September 8. The election for the vacant seat in the House of Commons for the County of Tyrone, Ireland, took place to-day, and resulted in the return of a Liberal by a narrow majority. AParnellite who was one of the candidates was defeated by a large majority. At the wool auction to-day 9500 bales were offered, making a total of 142,900 catalogued since the opening. A firm demand was shown for the various lots offered. The total number of bales withdrawn from sale since the commencement of the series is 11,000.

The Trades Union Conference, which has just concluded its sittings, has passed resolutions denouncing the restrictions placed by some foreign countries upon the freedom of international trade.
