September 6. The Chamber of Commerce report states that a reply has been received from the American Government that the question of the remission of the duty on wool has been referred to the committee of ways and means of the House of Representatives for consideration. Legal reform is urgently demanded by tbe country, and v hope is expressed tbat pressure would be brought to bear to induce legislation on the subject. It is expected that the Union Company will err long see its way to extend its operations to Fiji. The Chamber think the time has arrived for the colony to erect its own sugar refinery, and for the cultivation of sugar beet.
