JOHNSON, Analytical Chemist to the Government of Victoria. Chemical Laboratory, School of Arts, Sydney, May 13, 3880, I have examined the Samplk of M'Ewin's Bottled Alb submitted to me, and find that it contains — Alcohol by weight, 5 - 40 per cent; or by volume, 6 - 55 per cent. Extractive maUer, 306 per cent.; Acid matter, 017 per cent. I have also examined the Ale for such deleterious ingredients as are sometimes added to Bcor, and have found no indication of their presence.
