CHRISTCHURCH.
September 3. The German residents celebrated tbe anniversary of Sedan by a ball at the Wellington Hotel. Seventy couples were present. At the inquest on the body of Michael Howard, the jury returned a verdict that the deceased died from injuries received on the railway whilst performing an act which was not required of bim as a Government servant.
The performance of the Lyttelton Times Dramatic Society last night was a great success. The theatre was crowded.
