August 26, 1881. A representative provisional committee held a meeting on the 25th instant in the schoolroom to take into consideration ways and means in order to secure a good medical practitioner for this district. Mr Fountain was elected to the chair) wnen he called upon Mr King, acting V J hon. sec. pro tern, to explain the object of the meeting. This having been done, the Rev. Mr Robertshaw proposed, and Mr Hutchine seconded, that the Woodville Riding and Pahiatua be considered the district, which was carried. Mr Jackson proposed, and Mr Murphy seconded, that the aid given be in the form of a bonus for the term of three years. Mr Murphy and the Rfcv. Mr Robertshaw seconded, that subscribers of three guineas and upwards be charged half-price of usual fee, those of five guineas and upwards be entitled to attendance for one member of his family) the free visits not to exceed twelve per annum, and more than one in said family to be charged half price. A previous motion of Mr Jackson's provided that the subcribers of one guinea be charged onethird less than the usual charge. Several other motions were proposed and carried, and finally a sub-committee was appointed to finally arrange everything previous to a public meeting. The following are the names of the gentlemen elected :—Messrs Fountain, Peebles, Smith (of Oringi), Murphy, Jackson, Bobertshaw, King, Moore, Bevan, Sowry, Hutchins, Parminter, Crawford, and Allardice, being what was thought a fair representative committee. After a vote of thanks to the chairman the meeting separated. During the meeting several would be orators were amusing, but although at times they began to wax warm everything passed off agreeably, and I believe all will acknowledge that at last the right step has been taken. By the way, before I close, a cordial vote of thanks was accorded to V" the Friendly Societies' committee for the trouble they had taken in advancing this object.
