WHEREAS certain public works, that is to flay, the construction of a portion of the Welling-ton-Napier Railway (Napier Workshops) have been authorised, and the lar.d for the same taken by proclamation. Now. I, John Hall, the Minister Acting for the Minister for Public Works, do hereby publicly notify that I appoint .the Public Works Office, at Kopua, to be the office at which persons claiming compensation for land taken for, or otherwiee affected by, the said public works shall nerve their clairhs, pursuant to ?• ThejPublic Works Act, 1870," and Acts amending the same. ALTHOUG-H this office has been in existence for a period of more than seven years, it is believed that the objects for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth in a concise form information respecting the business which this office undertakes : 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts, such as Marriage Settlements, monies to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, monej s the title to which is in dispute, or whose legal owner is unknown or cannot be found, etc. etc. 2.' The administration of the wills of persons who by appointing the Public Trustee as their executor secure the guarantee of the State for the due fulfilment of their wishes, and avoid the risk consequent on the appointment of private persons as executors, who not unfrequently, though earnestly desirous of acting for the benefit of the parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they are striving to protect in costly and harrassing litigation. 3. The administration of all estates of whioh no disposition has been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the responsibility of administration, or cannot from any cause obtain tho necessary powers to act. In such cases it is the duty of the Public Trustee to discharge all logal debts bo far as the assets extend, and divide tho residue amongst the next of kin. 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 6. The charge of lands lying waste and unoccupied of which the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the colony for ten years, having left no known agent. WHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of " The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876." an Election will beheld, in each Ward, on THURSDAY, the Bth day of September, 1881, of One Councillor to fill the vacancy occurring in the representation of such Ward by effluxion of the term of office of the outgoing Councillor, viz. :—ln the North Ward, the unfilled Vacancy created by the resignation of Ex-Councillor Leonard ; in the Central Ward, the Office now held by Councillor McDougali., and, in the South Ward, that now held by Councillor Wall ; which last named two Councillors retire but are eligible for re-election. I, the undersigned, hereby give notice that I have appointed the Office of the Town Clerk, Napier, as the place, and THURSDAY, the FIRST day of September, 1881, as the day for the Nomination of Candidates for the Office of Councillor for each of the three Wards; and also give notice, that any burgesses of either of the Wards, des'rous of Nominating a Candidate, must, before Noon of the said FIRST day of September, cause to be addressed to me and delivered at the said Office of the Town Clerk, a Nomination paper in the prescribed form, stating the Christian Fame and Surname of such Candidate, and each such Nomination Paper must be signed by two Electors of the Ward of tho Borough for which such Candidate is nominated, and by the Candidate himself in token of his assent to such Nomination.
