FISH CULTURE.

[To the Editor of the Daily Teleoeaph.] Sir.—l should like to ask Mr C. A. Fitzßoy one or two questions relative to the amount of public support he may reasonably expect towards his fish scheme. If my mind serves me right I think some years ago the public very generously supported the Acclimatisation Society in its effort to introduce pheasants and other game to this province, which was very successfully accomplished. Now, what

is the result so far as it bears on the public ? The people are asked to pay 50s for a license, which, when taken out is actually no use to them unless they go down on thpir knees and beg a day's shooting of one or other of the landed proprietors. No sooner does the season open than the two daily papers are crowded with notices of prosecution if anyone ia found hunting the game which has been brought into the country by public subscription. Are we going to assist in stocking the rivers with fish in order that half-a-dozea families can monopolise, the sport of catching them, and enjoy the pleasure of seeing their " sisters, cousins, and aunts " feeding at the expense of a generous public P If Mr Fitzßoy could guarantee to the public the right of fishing in all rivers in the open season then there would be some reason for asking for support, but if salmon and trout are to be introduced for the sole benefit of those parties through whose property the rivers run, then I say the public have no right to pay one shilling for the pleasure of knowing that our rivers are well stocked with fish, and only a few allowed the privilege of fishing for them.—l am, &c, Brown Teotjt.
