WELLINGTON.
August 26. William Philpot, an old and wellknown settler at Carterton, has been arrested on a charge of embezzling about £100 of the funds of the Heart of Oak Lod»e, 1.0.0. F., of which he was secretary and treasurer. The Lyons Tourist and Pleasure Party, after a most successful week, with crowded houses every night, leave here this afternoon for Napier. The Havelock and Waikamairiri Slucing Company's claim was offered at auction yesterday, and was sold this morning by the trustees to Stephen Hutcheson, of Dunedin, C.E., for £750, the reserve price. The following intercolonial weather exchange has been received :—-Sydney, Thursday evening. The depression over Borda yesterday has passed to the S.E., and is now reported from Hobarr, with high N.W. winds, but elsewhere light variable winds with a falling barometer —Albany, 29-7 ; Hobarr, 29 8; Sydney, 30-1.
