STOCK GRAZING IN OUR HIGHWAYS.

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegbaph.] Sir, —Being a drover, I wish, through the privilege of your open columns, to make known to the public the great annoyance us drovers have to endure by the roads from Pakowai to Moteo being grazed with sheep; and, to add injury to insult, I saw a notice in the paper warning people against driving through the said run (viz., the road) without giving legal notice that the law would be enforced. Now, I call that a cool piece of cheek, for in the first place anyone can impound stock straying on fenced roads, therefore the road runholder's sheep have no right to be there to the annoyance of people using the Queen's highways ; and some day he will find, instead of a legal driving notice being given, that his sheep will be driven to the pound out of the way. lam told that the Papakura Road Board leases him the grazing of the roads; if so, they have surely exceeded their functions, and the sooner they cancel the lease the better for them, for we are determined to test the case, and see if the highways can be monopolised. In conclusion I can only express surprise at a gentleman of such tall notions not being able to advertise a more aristocratic run. —I am, &c, Deover. August 25, 1881.
