JOHNSON, Analytical Chemist to the Government of Victoria. Chbmioal Laboratory, School of Arts, Sydnkt, May 13. 1880. I have examined the Sampm of M'Ewin's Bottled Alk submitted to me, and find that it contains - Alcohol by weight, B'-O per cent; or by volume, 665 per cent. Extractive maHor, 806 per cent.; Acid matter, o'l7 per cent. I have also examined the Alb for such deleterious ingredients as are sometimes added to Beer, and have found no indication of their presence. The three first conditions laid down by the Committee for Wines and Berks for the late International Exhibition, as those to which espeoial prominence would be given, were—lst, Low alcoholic percentage: 2nd, Freedom from acidity; 3rd Absence of fusel oil; and all these are fulfilled in this sample.
