WAIROA.

(FROM OtJR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) August 13, 1881. The Rev. Mr Hill '.returned yesterday from his Whanganui mission tour, and resumes his ministrations here. A young man named T. Webbe had a narrow escape from drowning at Mohaka last week. The weather had been bad, and in trying to ford one of the latter he got washed off his horse, and was quickly carried down the stream a long distance. Being a powerful swimmer he struck out, and happily reached the bank in safety. Seven years ago to-day—on the 13th of August, 1874—the resolution proposing to abolish the Provincial Councils was brought down, and to-day we fiad members who supported that resolution, now supporting motions and men in favor of their restoration. Scientists tell us that the human system is entirely changed every seven years, so that men who voted for the abolition of Provincialism seven years ago are not the men who now vote in the opposite direction. Thus only can I account for the change of opinion. The Domain Board met on Wednesday night and accepted a tender for clearing the remaining portion of the domain. The tenders ranged from 45s to 12s per acre, the latter being accepted —one step nearer the botanical gardens.
