PATHETIC WITH CARRIER PIGEONS.
A singular and fatal accident occurred on the High Level Railway at the Crystal Palace, lately. Through some defects in tho points or the wheels, the front carriage of a (rain from 'Victoria v/us thrown over on to its side while entering the Palace station. Fortunately there were only six persons in it, and four of them escaped with a more or less severe shaking, the guard having several ribs broken. A boy, however, seems to have been looking out of tho window, and from the position in which the body was found, it is supposed that he fell from the carriage as it turned over, and wag crushed beneath it, his head being completely severed by the footboard. When search was made, a bag containing some carrier pigeons was found in the compartment, and these were immediately utilised to discover a clue to the poor lad's identity. The pigeons, it is believed, were taken to the Palace with a view of being flown in a march ; but instead of this they were made the bearers of papers containing an account of the distressing accident. These they evidently carried straight to the home of their boyish owner, as in about three hours after the despatch of the pigeons the father came up from I J l,imste-id, and identified the body of the vii'tini as that of his son.
