AUCKLAND.
August 12,
The schooner Albatross, which arrived this morning from the Islands, reports the wreck of the Auckland built brigantine, Meg Merrilies, which left Suva for Levuka in command of Captain Hughes, and when beating along the reef outside the former harbor, missed staves, and went ashore. She was washed high and dry, and the bands were engaged in dismantling her, when the Albatross left. The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce has telegraphed to the Premier and some Auckland members re the unfair representation of Auckland on the direct steam service committee ; also urging the passing of a rebate act. A special meeting is to be held on Tuesday re the omission of the Government to place a cum on the estimates for the completion of the railway terminue on the reclamation ground. Public feeling is much exercised on the matter.
