In our report in yesterday's issue of the meeting on Monday night of the Hawke's Bay Philosophical Institute, the name of one of the newly elected members should have been Mr J. H. Brown.— and not Mr J. H. Wilson.
A letter has been received in Dunedin from Mr Conway with regard to the visit of the English team of professional cricketers to New Zealand. The tour will commence in the South early in January, the team travelling north to Auckland.
The division list on Mr Thompson's motion, given in our issue of yesterday, gave the Government a majority of six. We believe the majority for the Government was five, and it is probable that Sir George Grey's name waß omitted from the list of Noes.
We are requested to state that our informant was wrong in saying that Mr Briggs, the contractor for the dredge punts, had obtained the totara keel pieces from Mercury Bay, per schooner Orpheus. The fine totara lengths were supplied from the mills of Messrs Wilding and Bull.

His ultimate destination, says the Canterbury Times, is at present uncertain, for one or two persons in Dunedin are negotiating for his purchase. In any event, he is pretty sure to take part in the Canterbury Spring Meeting. He is in very good condition and will not want a great deal of work to make him fit by November.
A meeting of a few settlers, friends of Mr Sydney Johnston, was held last Saturday, when the following gentlemen consented to act as a committee to further the election of Mr Johnson:—Messrs Gaisford, Grant, Bridge, Hamilton, and A. S Birch. It is rather amusing to think that the above old Hawke's Bay settlers are banded together to give Wellington another representative in the person of a gentleman whose whole family is bound up in the support of the most narrow-minded of Tory principles. We shall have something more to say of this committee bye-and-bye.

At a meeting of the committee of the Hawke's Bay Racing Club, held last evening, ifc was resolved to hold a spring meeting at Pakowhai on Wednesday, the 12th of October. As a number of horses will be here for the Jockey Club's meeting on the 11th, and as the first day of the Agricultural Society's show possesses little interest for the general public, a majority of the committee were of opinion that the circumstances were favourable to having a spring meeting. As will be seen from the programme published in another column, it is proposed to give £225 in added money, appropriated as follows : —Maiden Plate of £25, Handicap Hurdle Race of £40, Hack Hurdle Race of £15, Racing Club Handicap of £95, Hack Race £15, and Hawke's Bay Stakes of £40.
