SYDNEY.
August st The foundation stone of the statue of Her Majesty the Queen was laid to-day by Prince Albert Victor of Wales, in an enclosure opposite St. James's Church, in the presence of His Excellency the Right Hon. Lord Augustus Loftus and suite and many members of the Legislative Council and Assembly. Twenty thousand children from the schools in the city were present, and it is estimated that fully seventy thousand spectators were on tbe ground. August 8. No instructions have yet been received by Admiral Clanwilliam from the Admiralty regarding the future movements of the detached squadron, but it is understood that under any circumstances the vessels will not leave Sydney before the 10th instant. In the Legislative Assembly last night the Influx of Chinese Restriction Bill was read a third time and passed, and transmitted to the Legislatve Council, A further medical examination of the boy residing in Barker's Lane in the city has resulted in his case being pronounced definitely one of small-pox, and he has been removed with the other sufferers to tbe quarantine station.
