I have examined the Sample of M'Ewin's Rottled Alb submitted to me, and find that it contains - Alcohol by weight, 5-40 per cent; or by volume, 6 - 55 per cent. Extractive matter, 3'oo per cent.; Acid matter, o'l7 per cent. I have also examined the Ale for such deleterious ingredients as are sometimes added to Beer, and have found no indication of their presence. Tho three first conditions laid down hy the Committee for Wines and Beers for the late International Exhibition, as those to which especial prominence would be given, wer<i—lst, Low alcoholic per centige : 2nd, Freedom from aoldity ; 3rd lbsenco of fusel oil; and all these ire fulfilled in this sample.
