THE FIRE AT TARADALE.

[To the Editor of the Daily Telegbaph.] Sib,—ln your report of tbe fire at M'Donald's hotel, that appeared in your isfiue bf yesterday, you say it is suspected the fire was caused by some one carelessly using matches when telling tbe old, old story to one of the maids. Your informant should have told you the truth while he was about it, and said the fire was caused by using the wash-house as a smoking-room. I suppose your informant means by one of tbe maids one of the servant maids, but let me tell him tbat both of the girls are very respectable, and of unblemished character* and not the sort to go listening to the old story in back wash-houses at that hour of night. I hope the next time the same party furnishes yon with a report he will not be so mean as to try and make fun at the expense of two respectable girls,—l am, &c, Thxjth. Taradale, August 2,1«81.
