I have examined sample of M'Ewan's Edinburgh India Pale A_b submitted to me, and, as a sample of what can be done by a good, honest brewer, it is perfect. No foreign cheap bitter, such as Quassia—no Poisonous "Drug, such as Strychnine, Picric, Acid or Cocculus Indicus. Nothing but the Products op Ptjiie Malt and Hora, brewed and fermented in a cool atmosphere. and bottled with care. Admirers of first-class British Beer may use thi3 brand as at present offered -Qr."sale without disappointment. As a pure wholesome Bottled Ale it may bo strongly recommended. WM. JOHNSON, Analytical Chemist to the Government of Victoria. Chemical Laboratory, School of Arts, Sydney, May 13,1880. I have examined the Sample of M'Ewin's Rottled Alb submitted to me, and find that it contains - Alcohol by weight, 5"40 per cent; or by volume, 655 per cent. Extractive matter, 306 per cent.; Acid matter, 017 per cent. I have also examined the Ale for such deleterious ingredients as aru sometimes added to Beer, and have found no indication of their presence. The three first conditions laid down by the Committee for % inks and Bekbb for tbe late International Exhibition, as tboso to which especial prominence would be given, were—lst, Low alcoholic per centre : 2nd, Freedom from acidity ; Srd Absence of fusel oil; and all these ire fulfilled in this sample.
