BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held this day at 2 p.m. Present: His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Councillors Leonard, Cotton, M'Kay, M'DougalJ, Ellis, Swan, and Monteith. His Worship read the requisition sent to him asking him to call a special meeting. Cr. Monteith moved, "That this Council approves of the intentions of the Government as set forth in the proposed Redistribution of Seats Bill, conferring upon the Borough of Napier the right to elect a member of the House of Representatives." Cr. McDougall seconded the resolution. Cr. Leonard supported the motion. Cr. Swan pointed out that for the last two elections the majority of the voters of the borough had voted for the defeated candidate. It had been a great disadvantage and a crying evil that the borough bad had no representative. His Worship thought the matter ought to have been moved in long ago. At the last election they were simply swamped by votes in the country. Their interests had never been attended to. Cr. McKay was not going to oppose the motion. He thought that the time had arrived when the borough should have a member. The motion was passed unanimously. Cr. McDougall moved, "That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr Sutton for presentation to the House of Representatives." Seconded by Cr. Leonard and carried. Cr. Swan suggested that the members for the district be asked to give the resolution their support. Toe Council then adjourned.
