DUNEDIN.
July 19. The case of Mercer and wife v. the Queen, a claim for £2000 damages for injuries sustained through the alleged negligence of the Telegraph Department in leaving a wire across a road, is being tried before a special jury in the Supreme Court to-day.
The Resident Magistrate has decided that the Governor has no power to inflict a penalty for a breach of the tramway regulations, and dismissed the information against Proud foot.
