KAIKORA.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.") July 15, 1881. The final meeting of the Road Board was held to-day for the purpose of winding up the affairs for the year, and afterwards, pursuant to notice, the annual meeting of the ratepayers was held for the election of wardens. Mr W. White was voted to the chair. The balancesheet was read and adopted. Ten gentlemen were then proposed to fill the office of wardens. After some disscussion it was decided that single voting should be adopted. A difference of opinion then ensued as to tbe right of voting by proxy; one side contending that proxies.
should be ueed, the other side complaining of the unfairness of such a course. At last the discussion became so warm that the chairman left his seat, and a scene occurred that was discreditable to all parties concerned, and the meeting broke up without any business being done. After some little delay the meeting was reformed by some of the ratepayers, and Mr S. McGreevy was voted to the chair. The balance-sheet was again duly passed, and five gentlemen were elected wardens, Mr McGreevy being chosen chairman of the new board.
