A young printer, engaged to be married, was "offered a post on an American newspaper ; so be resolved to delay his wedding for a few months. His sweetheart went down to the docks to wish him good-bye. As they stood on the vessel's deck he said, 'You won't forget me, Annie?' 'Forget you, never!' exclaimed the young lady. 'But what,' asked the young printer, ' are you doing with your poekethandkercMef ?' ' Nothing, Charlie,' she replied, ' but tying a knot in the corner. 4 A colored man was busily engagod in sawing some wood for a Galveston gentleman. The * man and brother' had a large Masonic breastpin on hi 3 shirt bosom. ' Do you colored masons and white masons affiliate ?' 'Don't affiliate worth a cent.' ■ What's the reason ?' ' Dunno, boss, but I's tried it. Dar is a bar-keeper in dis town what toted dis heah berry same emblem. I was in distress ; hadn't had a dram all dat mornin'. I cum in and gave de distress ' signal.' Did he respond ?' 'He didn't respond right. He made a motion at de doah with one hand, and reached "under de i bar. I made de sign once moah, and he fetched me between the shoulders wid the bring starter jes' as I was gettin' out de doah.*
