AUCKLAND.
July 8. Captain Casey, an old colonist and steamboat proprietor, is dead, the cause being bronchitis. Norah Williams, a confirmed drunkard, was discovered in the police cells last night nearly unconscious from attempting to choke herself with a silk handkerchief. The police took the handkerchief away, but she made a similar attempt afterwards with her garter. A petition bearing 1234 names has been sent to Wellington against any change in the constitution of the Grammar School board of governors.
