AUCKLAND.
June 3. Messrs V. and J. C. Blndon, who were arrested on a charge of setting fire to their premises last night, were brought up at the Police Court to-day, and a remand for a week granted on the application of prisoners' counsel. The cutter Teaser was wrecked on her voyage to the Wade. No lives were lost. She was owned by Mr M'Kowan, of Auckland.
The City Council has arranged for a citizen's ball in honor of the visit of the detached squadron. The address and the other usual tokens of welcome have been decided on.
Christopher Greenway, a wealthy property owner, was committed to prison to-day for seven days for refusing point blank to answer a question put to him as a witness in an embezzlement case against a man employed by the city night soil contractor.
