THE REV. IHAIA TE AHU (who has stedfastly labored amidst many discouragements as an ordained Clergyman of the Church of England since 1860 amongst liis countrymen, the loyal tribe of the A-awal is very desirous of erecting a Church at Ohinemutu, where he now resides. Ho feels the great want of a suitable building in which the people may assemble for public worship, and he believes that the erection of a Church will conduce to the restoration of that decent observance of the Lord's Day and of other ordinances of religion, which has of late years fallen into too much neglect. For this sad state of things Hie natives are not alone to blame. And now that an effort is being made amongst themselves to check drunkenness and other flagrant vices, and to return to the Faith, there is every reason that they should be encouraged and assisted in this much needed reformation. I would therefore very earnestly appeal to the English residents, and to the many visitor/ and tourists who for pleasure or health frequent these beautiful lakes, to contribute towards the building of a commodious and suitable Church, such as will be an ornament to the new township. The Maoris will give a site in a commanding position on the shores of the lake, and as the building will be available for English services as well as Maori, it will be of benefit to the whole community Subscriptions will be thankfully received by tho Rev. Ihaia te Ahu, Ohinemutu ; the Venerable Archdeacon Brown, C.M.S., Tauranga; and the Right Rev. the Bishop of Waiapu, Napier; or may be paid to the account of the " Maori Church, Ohinemutu," at the Bank of New Zealand, Tauranga EDWARD C.
