LONDON.

May 26. Negotiations have commenced between tbe English and French Governments for the removal of the treaties of 1860 and 1873 for regulating the international commerce of the two countries. The treaties will, under existing arrangements, terminate in October next, unless their extension or renewal be agreed upon.

Later intelligence has been received from Canada concerning the steam boat accident which occurred near London, in the province of Ontario, to the effect that two hundred and forty corpses have already been recovered. Recent news from Ireland states that a want of harmony is apparent in the working of the Land League, and discord has show itself in open dissensions between several of the leading members. Notwithstanding the arrests which have been made in Ireland under the Coercion Act the power of the Land League continues to be felt throughout the country, meetings under its auspice? are still held in agitation of the land question, and it is rumoured thtt the Government, in consequence, intends to instruct the Viceroy to prohibit all meetings of tbe League in Ireland. The Turko-Greek convention in settlement of the frontier difficulty having been concluded, the Right Hon. Mr Goschen, Ambassador Extraordinary to the Porte, is now returning to London. Bis successor, Ei>rl Dufferin, will leave St. Petersburg shortly for Constantinople. At the wool sale to-day 9,700 bales were offered, making a total of 133,900 catalogued since the opening. There was a good demand for the various lots offered. The total number of bales withdrawn from sale since the opening is now 7,000.
