Peter Hodge Kirk, an expressman, committed suicide by hanging himself last night. On his body a letter was found stating that the cause of the act was bis separation from his wife and family last week, the wife having sued him for maintenance. The letter added, " I suppose the jury will bring _in a verdict of insanity, but I am not inssne and never waß." Captain Anderson takes temporary command of the steamer Albion, and exchanges with Captain McGee of tbe Taiaroa. Mr Webster, chief officer of the Taiaroa has been appointed to the Hero, Captain Logan going home. The following insurance companies have paid the amounts of tbe policies on the Tararua :—Colonial, £3,500: New South Wales Marine, £500; United of Sydney, £500. The City Council intend preparing a bye-law to regulate playing games on the Corporation reserves, such as cricket football, &c. A site for baths has been secured. The Council will borrow £1000 to construct them.
