The Governor telegraphs regretting his inability to be present at tbe opening of the Dunedin Industrial Exhibition, as be cannot leave Wellington just now.
The population of Taieri County is — Males, 4225 ; females, 3252; decrease, 197. Waikouaiti County—Males, 1158 ; females, 984; decrease, 80. Peninsula County—Males, 1391; females, 1124; increase, 239.
Mr Macandrew wiU'addresshis constituents at Port Chalmers next Thursday night. Two children who had just recovered from the measles were committed to the industrial school on Saturday. Mr Titchener advised that it was not safe to have them in the institution just yet, as the school had hitherto been clear of measles, though the malady has been very prevalent in Dunedin and the county districts. It was agreed to get a person to take charge of the two children for a week or two.
A " Sailors' Rest" was opened at Port Chalmers on Friday night. Several clergymen and other persons delivered addresses.
One of the mounted policemen who returned from the wreck on Thursday had not had his clothes off for nine days.
Mr James Shand has bought a property in High-street, next to Watson's Hotel, with a building, for £11,000.
