The Tararua disaster enquiry and Mr Saunder's address to his constituents will be found on the fourth page. We learn from a correspondent that a meeting of the Ormondville School Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Mr McKnight's resignation of the chairmanship was received and accepted, and Mr Gundrie was elected to succeed him. Mr Robinson was elected to fill the vacancy in the committee, A special meeting of the Municipal Public Works Committee is called for this evening to consider the water supply scheme as proposed by the Municipal Engineer. At the last meeting of Council it was resolved that the Mayor be added to the Committee for the consideration of this scheme. The enquiry into the collision between the Boojum and the Donald is scarcely likely to conclude to-day. When our report left there were still a number of witnesses to be examined, and as there are three lawyers engaged in the examinations, in addition to Mr Ellis, who represents a quantity of uninsured cargo, and all the evidence is taken down, the examination of each witness takes a considerable time.
Mr Ernest Ingpen, who has been reappointed to the Railway Department at Napier, was not dismissed as stated by us yesterday, but resigned his appointment after five years and four months service through his application for an increase of salary being taken no notice of by Mr J. W. Miller, the manager. On leaving he received a handsome certificate from Mr Miller. On Mr Maxwell's visit here the other day Mr Ingpen was reappointed at a salary equivalent to his length of service. The tea meeting at Hastings yesternight, in aid of the local Presbyterian Church funds, was a great success, there being a laige attendance. Mr F. button, M.H.R., occupied the chair. The lievs. Messrs Shepherd, Rodger, and Nichol, addressed the meeting, after which tbe St. Paul's Church choir sang several sacred selections. Votes of thanks to the ladies who had presided at the tea tables, to the vocalists, and to the conductor, Mr H. Aplin, were passed, and a vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
The bazaar in aid of the funds of the "Waipawa Anglican Church was opened yesterday. The attendance during the afternoon was not so large as might have been expected, but towards the hour for closing a goodly number had put in an appearance. A very fair sum changed hands, Messrs Biokerton and (goldsmith doing a splendid trade at the wheel of fortune. The tables were well filled and tastefully arranged. During the evening musical selections on the pianoforte were given by Mrs Todd and Miss Porter. The bazaar will be continued this afternoon.
