THE LOSS OF THE TARARUA.
(by telegraph.) _ Invercargili., May 10. Eleven bodies were washed ashore on Sunday night south of Otara Point, including those of Thomas Crawford, Captain Garrard, and Dr. Campbell's son, and also the body of a lady passenger, which is unidentified, and a little girl. The others were males, including a Chinaman. The right arm and hand of ' the lady were broken near the shoulder ' when the body came ashore. ' Wtndham, May 10. ! On Sunday eleven bodies were re- , covered on the Waipapa beach, a short , distance south of where the vessel struck. . Amongst them was the body of the cap- < tain, which was identified by his brother; 1 that of R. W. Crawford, by papers found ( on the body ; and that of Robert Brown, i by a ring with a piece of gold quartz in I the centre; and the body of one male J and a Chinaman, the remainder being * European males, all unidentified. J On Monday fourteen bodies were re- 1 covered, amongst them being Dr Campbell's eldest son, which was identified by his uncle, and two unidentified females, 1; one being a young girl. The remainder i were males. j Tbe bodies now coming ashore are r . fearfully mutilated. 0 Donedin, May 10. n The enquiry into the wreck of the 1< Tararua was resumed this forenoon.
