The insurance on Bedell's brewery on the ' building is—National, £1000; Standard, £900; New Zealand, £1000; and New Zealand £600 on tbe contents. There is no clue as to the origin of the fire the whole place being on fire at once. The charges against Abbott for holding sweeps on races again failed to-day, tbe informations being ruled bad on an objection taken by. defendant's counsel. W. Day, City Council Clerk has been appointed a Mormon Elder, and has resigned his appointment with the intention of going to Utab. Thomas Simms, 'charged with attempted murder at Riverhead, has been remanded to the I2th instant. The girl Annie Carline,-whom Simms stabbed, has not yet recovered sufficiently to attend the Court to give evidence^ Petty robberies and buglaries are on the increase. A gang of thieves is believed to be in the city.
