IN EXPLANATION.
[TO THE EDITOE OF THE DAILY T__VHGBA_>H.] Sib,—ln the Waipawa correspondent's* letter to the Herald this morning-appearah a paragraph (which the writer evidently thinks a smart one) having reference to me making " hideous noises with off cornet." I must certainly ..pleaa. guity to doing a little " tooting" occasionally on one of those instruments; but do so mainly to drown the discordant sounds proceeding from the of the street," supposed to emanate; fromf* piano (?) (save the mark !)."and the continual howling'of a couple pf !hall-stirv_d curs. Ambitious amateur country HSorres*pondents, as a rule, when seeking for information, generally business, and, instead of giving readable news to subscribers, attempt writing * rancy paragraphs (which in. the: majority;/of cases, have neither point nor joke) to suit their own morbid taste. ,3. would advise my young friend for the future to turn his facile pen to some more lucrative use than plagiarising(and much mangling) paragraphs from ; Max Adder's works; and sending them to newspapers ac his own production. Hoping I have not taken up too much of your valuable space, —I am &c, -
W. Goldsmith, Waipawa, April 30, 1881.
