j A house and shop were burned down •in Manchester-street at 6 o'clock last night. The premises were formerly used by a picture-frame maker named Beardslley, but they were empty at the time. The building was insured in the United 'for £400, the Bank of New Zealand i being the owners. The origin of the fire is not known. The house had a lot of shavings and litter in it.
