FENIANISM?
L To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.], Sir,—lt was currently reported that a most diabolical attempt was made to-day to blow up the premises of Messrs Banner and Liddle, and that this' cowardly business was the work of agents of the Fenian organisation. If such was the case I ihink it is full time for the authorities to be on the alert, and once aud for ever put a stop to these da«tardly acts in this our adopted country — acts I am certain that will cause the breast of every manly Britisher to heave L with indignation. I trust our representatives will at once be called upon (by Jove, they are stumping at Wairoa) to bring tbe matter under the notice of .^V the Government, in order that the Governor may at once proclaim Hawke's Bay a disturbed district. Should anything of this nature again occur between now and tbe meeting of Parliament, I. would suggest that Captain Russell and Mr Sutton be waited on by the leaders of law and order and asked to force on the Government the necessity of making their first consideration a Coercion Bill, so that the law may not fail when an emergency occurs. By inserting this yon will oblige — A LOTAL SURJECT. Napier, April 28, 1881.
