More audit expenses! Mr Robert Macalister has been appointed " Auditor for the purposes of the Harbours Act, 1878." This means that Mr Macalister will be employed at public expense to run- about the colony to audit the accounts of the Harbour Boards. Is Mr Macalister the only man in the colony whose professional skill and probity can be relied on ? Where there is a Harbour Board is there not to be found some one capable enough and honest enough to audit the accounts *of such a body ? Little short of the verge of bankruptcy the colony is to be saddled with the useless cost of a travelling auditor. Who is this Mr Macalister whom the Government delighteth to honour ? The same gentleman is also appointed auditor of the accounts of the Trustees of the Rabbit Districts of Hawke's Bay, Waipawa, Manawatu, Piilmerston North, Otaraia, Carterton, Masterton, Awhea, Wainuioru, Castle Point, and Whareama. Who can believe in the hona fides of the Ministry's professions when such foolish appointments and useless extravagance are indulged in ?
