The Gazette contains a notice that a bonus of £500 will be given for the first 25 tons of butter or first 50 tons of cheese (produced in a factory worked on the American principle, and to which factory any farmer, subject to certain conditions, may send his milk) which shall be exported from New Zealand and Bold at such prices in foreign market as shall show tbat the articles are of fair quality. A bonus of £500 will also be given on the first 100 tons of fresh meat exported from New Zealand in vessels fitted with refrigerating machinery ; such meat must have been collected in a refrigerating chamber in this colony, and must have been landed in Europe in sound marketable condition.
A warrant of arrest has been issued against Whitelaw at the instance of tbe Grown calling on bim to show cause why he should not be adjudged to pay to the Crown the sum of £278, being the aggregate amount of salary due to his mother, Mrs Kettle, while acting as matron of the Wellington Asylum, and received by Whitelaw on her account. Whitelaw being at present in gaol awaiting trial on a charge of ill-treating a patient, the
warrant cannot be executed, but should he obtain bail on the charge the warrant will be served upon him.
